Estação da Leitura (2016)

Originally launched in 2011, the Reading Station project aimed to bring small public library modules to Curitiba’s bus terminals, offering free book loans to commuters. With higher borrowing rates than the city’s main public library and less than 2% of books not returned, the initiative proved to be a success.

In 2016, during my period working at Komm Design, developed a redesign of the original concept — presented as Estação da Cultura — with the goal of expanding the network across the city and improving technical and operational aspects of the design.

The new version introduced several key improvements:
Simplified construction using fewer materials, reducing costs and environmental impact.
Stronger yet lighter structure, thanks to optimized steel components.
Increased book capacity, accommodating over 1,000 titles.
Enhanced ergonomics and working conditions for on-site staff.

Integrated digital and informational features, including an interactive monitor and dedicated spaces for cultural event materials.

Designed for scalability, the modular system can be easily replicated in multiple locations, bringing culture and accessibility to different neighborhoods of Curitiba.
